As Amazing Books and Records settles in, we continue working behind the scenes Greening up our building at 1317 East Carson Street to lead us into our Regenerative Future. The idea is we are modeling "the more beautiful future we all know is possible." Thank You Charles Eisenstein for that phrase! :)
We continue to document the Materials Petal of the Living Building Challenge. The Living Building Challenge. What is That? Well, the idea is this: How do you create a building that is as beautiful as a flower and functions as efficiently and effectively? There are seven petals and 20 imperatives to the challenge. Zero Net or Positive Energy, Zero Net or Positive Water, Materials, Beauty, Equity, Health and Site. Check out the International Living Futures Institute web site at ILFI.org for more details. The idea is to leave the Extraction economy of oil and gas behind and move seamlessly into our Regenerative, Restorative Future NOW! We have been a Transition Town Project, Living Building Challenge Registered Project from the get go since we began this process in 2010!

It turns out, there's lots more jobs to be had in the Solar, Wind and Building Renovation sectors than in the dwindling Oil and Gas Economy. Currently at 1317 East Carson Street, we are going for Living Building Challenge Petal Recognition for the front 4600 feet of our 18,000 square foot building with its cold prep kitchen. Schwartz Living Market ROCKS! November 2016 AMAZING EVENTS!:)
Lovingkindness, Peace, Healthful Living and Unity are my buzzwords for the rest of my life! This roller coaster ride is just beginning. I'm in, with my intentions set. Understanding this is going to be the wild ride of our lifetimes and getting excited about all of it. I'm praying for the enlightenment of this new administration. With that will come an immediate capping of the the stacks on the coal fired power plants, not just in Pittsburgh, but in the entire country so greenhouse gas emissions will be reduced by 80%. The amazingly quick movement to not just Sustainable, but REGENERATIVE lifestyles....Erin Brockovich is already helping us remotely and who knows, perhaps she'll be visiting this region before we know it to work with us on some proposed toxic choices for this Western PA region! With that will come the removal of subsidies to the oil and gas industries and subsidies to the already existing technologies of Hydrogen, Sun, and Wind, those technologies that have been with us since the beginning of time! Modeling Healing and Wellness from the inside out is our game and the part we play in the heart of Pittsburgh's Entertainment District!!!
I pray for a smooth ride, with a few bumps and unexpected sharp turns, with lots and lots of drug- free adrenaline rushes and calm moments! So many will release so much pain and trauma and move on and into the meaning of why they were put on this planet Earth at this moment in time. How much more exciting can things get y'all?!

May 2016 Functional Forum
If there is one conference that has charted the rise of the Functional Forum and the Evolution of Medicine it is the Integrative Health Symposium, the biggest integrative and functional medicine conference on the East Coast, held each February in New York.
For our May episode we bring you the best content from the conference, and a theme emerged quickly… and it was music to our ears…
The Power of Groups, Groupers and Community. Not only was this a theme of some of the best content, but we were also able to capture insight from our NYC Functional Forum community members attending the conference.
We are thrilled to bring highlights of Dr. David Perlmutter’s epic keynote where he talked about “Grouping and Splitting” and how the chronic disease epidemic can best be solved by grouping symptoms, rather than “splitting diagnoses”.
We will also feature a segment from Jamie Harvie, Executive Director of Institute for a Sustainable Future, an incredible talk as part of the “Community in Medicine” panel that James was featured on, hosted by John Weeks.

Functional Forum and Bernie's Headquarters too!!
Hello Schwartz Living Market Fans! This is a REAL BLOG entry! Not just an announcement about an upcoming event, but a behind the scenes Synchronicity STORY too!!! First the announcement:
Where? Schwartz Living Market, 1317 East Carson Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15203
So here's the BLOG part of this post:
A week ago Saturday, I was planning a few outings. Part of my plan was to stay away from my electronic devices including my desk top computer. But then I realized I needed to figure out the address of where I was going that afternoon. I was planning to attend a Native American Spring Equinox Ceremony and I did not have the address. So you know how it happens...I googled the event, the address, and then decided to quickly check my e-mail before leaving the house....
And there was an e-mail from a friend of mine with a note: Elisa...I think your Schwartz Living Market Venue would be perfect for this: And there it was, a forwarded Bernie Sanders for President Newsletter announcing the need for a space for the Pittsburgh Bernie Sanders Headquarters.
Requirements listed were:
1) 2,000 to 3,000 square feet
2) Open space for meetings/gatherings
3) Preferably a Bernie Supporter
Check, Check, Check...All three requirements met, so I sent an e-mail to the scout. He called me within 10 minutes. I had not yet left my home. He asked if he could see the space. I said, "Sure, ", "How about tomorrow, I asked? He said, "How about this afternoon?" And so it goes, I met him in the space two hours later. We spent an hour and a half going over details.. He videoed the space and said he'd let me know. I walked around the block to the parking lot, got into my car and began to text to my husband when all of a sudden, Alex, the scout knocked on my car window. When I opened the window, he put his thumb up and said, "It's a GO!"
Talk about fast action and synchronicity. So that's the back story of how 1317 East Carson Street become the Official Bernie Sanders for President Official Headquarters...Hey that's my synchronicity story for today! Next time I decide to blog on synchronicity, I'll talk about why and how the energy we've created in the space at 1317 East Carson Street attracted the Bernie campaign, and how our process at Schwartz Living Market has been an example of a Transition Town, Living Building Challenge, Permaculture Based Project from the start, and how that ties in with the Bernie Sanders campaign, and why it is so important to educate the masses about how wise Bernie is and why it is so important to elect him as the next President! Our process at 1317 East Carson Street has been all about transforming culture, our inner and outer ecosystems and morphing ourselves and our built environments into spaces for healthful living! Yee Hah!

What's been going on at Schwartz Living Market? Well, the next chapter is upon us. We are preparing the space for the next Grand Opening in May, 2016 with lots of GREENpeneurs and HEALTH and WELLNESSpreneurs. So, a few days ago I walked in to this Urban Oasis for Healthful Living and what did I smell? Was it my imagination, or was I smelling some noxious fumes? There was my amazing contractor painting some sort of stain on a thin strip of wood adjacent to the beautiful, Made in the USA tile that now lines the area below the front window that I had hand picked, arranged by hand as a flowing riverbed, and cranked my shoulder over....
Why? What is it in me that created the situation of possible volatile organic compounds in the air inside our building? I thought I had been so very clear with all of the people putting their precious and wonderful energy into the space. You see, we have been complying with the Materials Petal of the Living Building Challenge for many, many years...I've repeated over and over and over again to everyone working and playing and being in the space that all materials MUST be cleared with me, through me before using them....Why do patterns continue to repeat themselves and why must lessons be learned over and over again?

Join us on Friday afternoon, August 29, 2014 between 3:00 and 5:00 PM to celebrate Jonathan's Foods! We will honor him as he embarks on the next journey in his life. He'll be taking a two month sabbatical, but in the meantime, we'll take time to eat some of his amazing 'cheese' cake with him!
Beginning on Thursday, September 4, 2014, Zest Wishes will be open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Mya Zeronis, the Lean Chef en Route of Zest Wishes will be serving on Saturdays from about 3:00 to 5:00 PM, as she spends Saturday mornings at the Bloomfield Farmer's Market. Between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM on Saturdays, the Schwartz Living Market will be serving shots of wheat grass juice and a Juice of the Day! Join Us with lots of friends and family to participate in the most wonderful process in the 'Burgh.. yes, Yes, we are totally biased!!! Mya and Pamela use pure, organic, unprocessed ingredients! We are blessed! On most Thursdays and Saturdays check out the Educational Vision Gym with Dr. Elisa Beck, developmental optometrist and somatic movement educator. In addition to the market project, the engine for Green Growth, there are a group of folks working with the building at 1317 East Carson Street to achieve Living Building Challenge Status. What is a LIVING BUILDING? What is PERMACULTURE? Darrell Frey, author of Bioshelter Market Garden: A Premaculture Farm, Elizabeth Lynch, Elisa Beck, and guest teachers will be teaching a three day workshop on November 7, 8 and 9, 2014 on Urban Permaculture. Details coming soon!
