Welcome Amazing Books and Records!

In June, 2017, Amazing Books and Records will grace us at the Schwartz Living Market Building@ 1317 East Carson Street with their presence! We're so excited!

Here's a link to the recent article in City Paper's Blog: http://www.pghcitypaper.com/Blogh/archives/2017/04/20/amazing-books-to-expand-to-pittsburghs-south-side-add-writing-classes

As Amazing Books and Records settles in, we continue working behind the scenes Greening up our building at 1317 East Carson Street to lead us into our Regenerative Future. The idea is we are modeling "the more beautiful future we all know is possible." Thank You Charles Eisenstein for that phrase! :)

We continue to document the Materials Petal of the Living Building Challenge. The Living Building Challenge. What is That? Well, the idea is this: How do you create a building that is as beautiful as a flower and functions as efficiently and effectively? There are seven petals and 20 imperatives to the challenge. Zero Net or Positive Energy, Zero Net or Positive Water, Materials, Beauty, Equity, Health and Site. Check out the International Living Futures Institute web site at ILFI.org for more details. The idea is to leave the Extraction economy of oil and gas behind and move seamlessly into our Regenerative, Restorative Future NOW! We have been a Transition Town Project, Living Building Challenge Registered Project from the get go since we began this process in 2010!

See The Transition Handbook, by Rob Hopkins to learn about powering down and be sure to check out Paul Hawken's newest book Drawdown. It turns out, there's lots more jobs to be had in the Solar, Wind and Building Renovation sectors than in the dwindling Oil and Gas Economy. So, remember to speak these truths to your family and friends, Divest from Oil and Gas, and here we go gliding into the future NOW!

Currently  at 1317 East Carson Street, we are going for Living Building Challenge Petal Recognition for the front 4600 feet of our 18,000 square foot building with its cold prep kitchen. We plan to complete an overall plan for the entire building. If you'd love to join us on the journey and have resources of any kind to donate, monetary, or otherwise, let us know! There's lots more to write about, so until next time,

Happy Springtime and we'll see you on May 28, 2017, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Open Streets PGH sponsored by BIKEPGH and others:)

Blessings, Peace, Love, Shalom & Namaste, y'all,

Elisa Beck:)

Schwartz Living Market ROCKS! November 2016 AMAZING EVENTS!:)

Lovingkindness, Peace, Healthful Living and Unity are my buzzwords for the rest of my life! This roller coaster ride is just beginning. I'm in, with my intentions set. Understanding this is going to be the wild ride of our lifetimes and getting excited about all of it. I'm praying for the enlightenment of this new administration. With that will come an immediate capping of the the stacks on the coal fired power plants, not just in Pittsburgh, but in the entire country so greenhouse gas emissions will be reduced by 80%.  The amazingly quick movement to not just Sustainable, but REGENERATIVE lifestyles....Erin Brockovich is already helping us remotely and who knows, perhaps she'll be visiting this region before we know it to work with us on some proposed toxic choices for this Western PA region! With that will come the removal of subsidies to the oil and gas industries and subsidies to the already existing technologies of Hydrogen, Sun, and Wind, those technologies that have been with us since the beginning of time! Modeling Healing and Wellness from the inside out is our game and the part we play in the heart of Pittsburgh's Entertainment District!!!
I pray for a smooth ride, with a few bumps and unexpected sharp turns, with lots and lots of drug- free adrenaline rushes and calm moments! So many will release so much pain and trauma and move on and into the meaning of why they were put on this planet Earth at this moment in time. How much more exciting can things get y'all?!

Peace, Love and Blessings for all of us and for Panchamama, Planet Earth and all her inhabitants:),

May 2016 Functional Forum

If there is one conference that has charted the rise of the Functional Forum and the Evolution of Medicine it is the Integrative Health Symposium, the biggest integrative and functional medicine conference on the East Coast, held each February in New York.
For our May episode we bring you the best content from the conference, and a theme emerged quickly… and it was music to our ears…
The Power of Groups, Groupers and Community. Not only was this a theme of some of the best content, but we were also able to capture insight from our NYC Functional Forum community members attending the conference.
We are thrilled to bring highlights of Dr. David Perlmutter’s epic keynote where he talked about “Grouping and Splitting” and how the chronic disease epidemic can best be solved by grouping symptoms, rather than “splitting diagnoses”.
We will also feature a segment from Jamie Harvie, Executive Director of Institute for a Sustainable Future, an incredible talk as part of the “Community in Medicine” panel that James was featured on, hosted by John Weeks.
We also feature Dr. Dan Kraft, Dr. David Brady, Dr. Robin Berzin and many more luminaries at the conference.
This episode will address the following questions:
  • How can we group symptoms to more effectively address multi-factoral chronic diseases
  • Why chronic disease must be seen in a larger ecological and community context
  • Clinical tips from our NYC community of practitioners to get better clinical results with patients

Keynote Speakers

Dr. David Perlmutter “Groupers, Splitters and the Future of Chronic Disease Care”
Jamie Harvie “Community, Ecology and the Powerful Role of Integrative Medicine”

Other Speakers Include:

Dr. Daniel Kraft, Dr. Robin Berzin, Dr. David Brady, & many more!

Many blessings for a Happy and Healthy Springtime!

Functional Forum and Bernie's Headquarters too!!

Hello Schwartz Living Market Fans! This is a REAL BLOG entry! Not just an announcement about an upcoming event, but a behind the scenes Synchronicity STORY too!!! First the announcement:

Join us this coming Monday evening, April 4, 2016 and every first Monday of the Month for James Maskell's LIVE STREAMING Functional Forums.  This month's Forum is Streaming from San Francisco! The event runs from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The LIVE Streaming is from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM with Q&A following from 8:00 PM to 8:30 PM. Socializing, Snacking and Networking from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Registration link and more details here: http://meetup.functionalforum.com/pittsburgh-pa/

Where? Schwartz Living Market, 1317 East Carson Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15203
Free parking behind the Venue across Bingham Street for attendees! This month we'll be meeting in the space behind the GIANT BERNIE Banner!

So here's the BLOG part of this post:

A week ago Saturday, I was planning a few outings. Part of my plan was to stay away from my electronic devices including my desk top computer. But then I realized I needed to figure out the address of where I was going that afternoon. I was planning to attend a Native American Spring Equinox Ceremony and I did not have the address. So you know how it happens...I googled the event, the address, and then decided to quickly check my e-mail before leaving the house....

And there was an e-mail from a friend of mine with a note: Elisa...I think your Schwartz Living Market Venue would be perfect for this: And there it was, a forwarded Bernie Sanders for President Newsletter announcing the need for a space for the Pittsburgh Bernie Sanders Headquarters.
Requirements listed were:
1) 2,000 to 3,000 square feet
2) Open space for meetings/gatherings
3) Preferably a Bernie Supporter

Check, Check, Check...All three requirements met, so I sent an e-mail to the scout. He called me within 10 minutes. I had not yet left my home. He asked if he could see the space. I said, "Sure, ", "How about tomorrow, I asked? He said, "How about this afternoon?" And so it goes, I met him in the space two hours later. We spent an hour and a half going over details.. He videoed the space and said he'd let me know. I walked around the block to the parking lot, got into my car and began to text to my husband when all of a sudden, Alex, the scout knocked on my car window. When I opened the window, he put his thumb up and said, "It's a GO!"

Talk about fast action and synchronicity. So that's the back story of how 1317 East Carson Street become the Official Bernie Sanders for President Official Headquarters...Hey that's my synchronicity story for today! Next time I decide to blog on synchronicity, I'll talk about why and how the energy we've created in the space at 1317 East Carson Street attracted the Bernie campaign, and how our process at Schwartz Living Market has been an example of a Transition Town, Living Building Challenge, Permaculture Based Project from the start, and how that ties in with the Bernie Sanders campaign, and why it is so important to educate the masses about how wise Bernie is and why it is so important to elect him as the next President! Our process at 1317 East Carson Street has been all about transforming culture, our inner and outer ecosystems and morphing ourselves and our built environments into spaces for healthful living! Yee Hah!

Happy April, Many Blessings, and I hope to see you down on the South Side!

This past week we loved the Students for Bernie event planned by Pitt Students for Bernie on Monday evening with so many young faces and the Official opening event this past Wednesday evening with the amazing GIANT BERNIE Puppet. What a kick!

Stop by and take your photo with a life size Bernie who stays on site 24/7! The office hours are 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM seven days a week! Volunteer by phone banking and more....

And for those that choose to vote for Bernie, you must be a registered DEMOCRAT in order to vote for Bernie in the Primary on April 26, 2016. If registered as an Independent, you cannot vote for the Democratic or Republican candidate in the primaries. Just sayin' ! :)

What's been going on at Schwartz Living Market? Well, the next chapter is upon us. We are preparing the space for the next Grand Opening in May, 2016 with lots of GREENpeneurs and HEALTH and WELLNESSpreneurs. So, a few days ago I walked in to this Urban Oasis for Healthful Living and what did I smell? Was it my imagination, or was I smelling some noxious fumes? There was my amazing contractor painting some sort of stain on a thin strip of wood adjacent to the beautiful, Made in the USA tile that now lines the area below the front window that I had hand picked, arranged by hand as a flowing riverbed, and cranked my shoulder over....

Why? What is it in me that created the situation of possible volatile organic compounds in the air inside our building? I thought I had been so very clear with all of the people putting their precious and wonderful energy into the space. You see, we have been complying with the Materials Petal of the Living Building Challenge for many, many years...I've repeated over and over and over again to everyone working and playing and being in the space that all materials MUST be cleared with me, through me before using them....Why do patterns continue to repeat themselves and why must lessons be learned over and over again?

If you've got any answers to this question, please let us know by posting on the Facebook page Schwartz Living Market or e-mail us at schwartzlivingmarket@gmail.com!

Many blessings for vibrant health, wellness and clarity!

Enjoy a-whole-new-level vegan brunch items crafted by Chef Mya Zeronis of Lean Chef en Route/extraVEGANza, using GMO-free, local, organic ingredients and NO refined sugar, gluten, processed textured mock meats, vegetable protein isolates TVPs and processed vegan cheeses.

A chef who weighs 98 pounds, Mya Zeronis started cooking plant-strong Burmese farm food in her parents' kitchen at the age of 11. Despite her decade-long career in conventional, meat-centric, butter-drowned, flour-covered and
sugar-coated U.S. restaurant kitchens, she identified a need
for healthful foods in Pittsburgh and made it her business in 2013. By returning to her roots, she resolved some of her
health issues resulted from eating whatever was readily available in restaurant kitchens. Her multifaceted business (personal chef and catering services, raw organic juice bar, vegan whole food cafe and monthly plant-based superfood brunches) aims to make healthy eating and sustainable living accessible. Nearly a dozen of her recipes won top prizes in national and local contests. Some others were published in magazines and cookbooks.

Introducing extraVEGANza! It's the newest business to grace Schwartz Living Market!

Welcome extraVEGANza to Schwartz Living Market!! We are so excited! Go to this link to be part of the process: Just cut the link below, and paste it into your browser, and you'll help Mya big time, to launch her newest venture!

 https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/eat-these-donuts-be-healthy#home

Mya Zeronis's business is morphing from Zest Wishes and The Lean Chef en Route to the 98 Pound Chef...Yes, you read that correctly! Mya was 145 pounds at one time!! Take a look at some recent blogging by a few of the bloggers at the brunch in April, 2015, and you'll see what I'm talking about. You'll see Mya spinning a giant piece of pizza dough! Those links can be found from the Schwartz Living Market Facebook Page.

What is new and what is next? Schwartz Living Market: An Urban Oasis for Healthful Living is an amazingly open, inspirational, changeable, fruitful, sensorimotor experience! When you find yourself asking what is next, what is this process, what is this project, know that you're talking to yourself, raising your awareness, and thinking about what is next for you too!!

Schwartz Living Market is selling delicious VivaPura superfood Buddha's Delight mixes, Vitality Super Mixes, and more! We also sell inspirational books by Brian Clement, Ph.D. of the Hippocrates Health Institute and his amazing wife, Anna Marie Clement, Ph.D. whose raw, vegan cookbook is outstanding!

Join us at the market on May 9. 2015 anytime between 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM for a shot of wheatgrass juice, and beginning at 1:00 PM for Mya's amazing 14 course delicious meal. Allow three hours to savor the food, one course at a time. Yup, the meal is served over a course of three hours. Ingredients for the first make your own juice of the day will be available when you arrive, and the fun continues course by course over the following three hours. Mya grew up in Burma, in a different culture than those of us that grew up in the United States. This Slow Foods meal will be one of those experiences you will not forget. Where else in the 'Burgh can you be served a 14 course meal over the course of three hours that is VEGAN, ORGANIC, GLUTEN-FREE, and GMO-free and if you register early or for a series of meals, the total cost is $15.00? It's unheard of! So register soon for an individual meal or for the series, otherwise the price creeps up to the also amazingly reasonable rate of $35.00/person. I am 100% convinced that a meal of this amazing quality would cost $75.00 if it were being served at a fancy establishment at the top of Mt. Washington or in Shadyside!!

Stay tuned for the exact date when Mya will be open in Schwartz Living Market five days a week from 9:00 AM to 8:30 PM serving grab and go Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner!

We are excited and blessed! Thanks so much to Violet, a graduate of Duquesne University in the field of Sustainability and Finance, and Sally graduates soon and who volunteered their time at the market and helped us get the WIFI up and running!

Blessings to all of you for a happy and healthy springtime!

Elisa :)

Earth Guardians are Protecting Planet Earth

What are you doing to protect the Earth?
Are you an Earth Guardian?
If you are not yet an Earth Guardian, how will you become an Earth Guardian?

 Earth, by Elisa Beck :)

As our Inner Ecosystem
As the Spaceship Earth
As the Present, the Future and the Past
As the rivers flow
and the fluids flow in our bodies
and in the
bodies
of all forms
of Life
the blood
the lymph
the single cells of hemoglobin flowing
through
our arteries
and veins
through the cytoplasm, the ecoplasm, the plasma
the chlorophyll
the SUN powers all of this and all of it

The beautiful Spaceship
called Earth
with all its
majesty
colors
sights
smells
The Perception
we hold
is ours
to form
Our thoughts
CREATE
OUR REALITY
So shift your thoughts towards Positivity
Creativity
Blissful wonder
& let's
CREATE
together
through
how we act
towards
ourselves
and
towards one another
What we eat
drink
and think
the new world that is
MEANT TO BE
IS
as we
Look
Feel
&Think
that way!
